Metis at the April London Drainage Engineers Group (LoDEG) meeting

The LoDEG held their quarterly meeting on April 21st and Metis was invited to give a presentation on the purpose and importance of asset registers.

Anam Balbolia and Nick Metcalfe from our Asset Management and LLFA teams delivered a presentation discussing the policy behind the creation of the asset register and ran through the fundamental aspects of a good asset register, covering:

  • The importance of an asset register containing accurate and concise information
  • Using GIS data and mapping to provide an interactive, user-friendly element
  • The need for clear information on ownership to transform the asset register into a one-stop shop in determining responsibility for the maintenance of assets
  • The place of a drainage asset plan within the larger context of an asset management framework
  • How maintenance operations can be conducted to introduce efficiencies, collaboration, and innovation to the task of asset management

To wrap up, Anam and Nick presented several case studies demonstrating Metis’ recent work with various London boroughs helping to update and maintain their asset registers to ensure they meet their responsibility as LLFAs.

The presentation was well received and generated interesting discussion on the differences between the data contained within internal and external asset registers, and the importance of keeping information up to date to ensure works can be programmed accordingly.
