Metis-NRP have been busy delivering careers workshops in local Southwark Schools to show young people what a career in engineering has to offer

As part of our social value commitment to Southwark Council, Metis-NRP have been busy delivering careers and work experience sessions in local Southwark secondary schools.

Volunteers from Metis-NRP visited St Thomas the Apostle Secondary School in Peckham for Year 10 work experience week to deliver interactive workshop sessions on Flood Risk Management, Asset Management and Quantity Surveying. The purpose of these sessions was to show students the array of careers available within engineering and the various routes into the industry. Students interacted in activities such as the spaghetti tower exercise which tested their engineering knowledge and team working skills.

Metis-NRP also visited The Sacred Heart Secondary School in Camberwell for Year 9 careers week to deliver a speed networking session, in which volunteers introduced students to their job roles and education backgrounds and provided information about the engineering industry and how to become an engineer. In addition to this Metis-NRP also delivered an interview skills session in which interview top tips were provided and students took part in mock interviews which were assessed by their peers.

The sessions were extremely successful due to the enthusiasm of the students. We hope to deliver many more sessions in the future to show young students the potential career paths and opportunities available to them.
