Metis can proudly announce its “Highly Commended” status in the Best Place to Work – SME Consulting Firm category at the prestigious New Civil Engineer (NCE) Awards 2025! With no fewer than ten firms on the award shortlist, it is wonderful that this recognises our company’s ongoing commitment to employee wellbeing, professional development and workplace culture.

It feels especially fitting that Metis receives this recognition in the year that it has become an Employee-Owned Business. Managing director Simon Jones and HR manager Tamzyn Rowland presented to the NCE judging panel earlier this year. They received glowing feedback on an “excellent presentation and submission”. In particular, the judges commended Metis’s monthly wellbeing budgets for employees, and our four Houses and competitive social calendar. They also noted the involvement of our staff in establishing the future direction of our business.
“To be Highly Commended in a category celebrating the best workplaces in our industry is a great honour,” said Simon.
“Our people are the heart of our business. We believe this recognition reflects our commitment to what we call ‘blue culture’. We characterise this through mutual respect, trust, collaboration, and a drive to innovate and deliver an extraordinary quality of work.”
Joining Tamzyn at the glamorous NCE Awards ceremony were technical director Ainhoa Gomez Larrea, marketing and communications manager Oliver Kiddell, senior highways engineer Donita Berdyna and water engineering associate Johannes Mentz. The NCE Awards celebrate the best of the UK’s engineering sector, recognising innovation, sustainability and leadership.
As Metis continues to grow, this Best Place to Work recognition affirms our position not only as a leader in civil and environmental engineering excellence, but as an employer of choice.
