As is now annual tradition, we held our company-wide employee Metis Sports Day on 9th July. Everyone at Metis, from our founders to our summer interns, got stuck into the action!
We’re grateful to the nearby Richmond Rugby Club for hosting us on a bright sunny afternoon, and serving up a terrific post-games BBQ! Our four Metis houses – Apollo, Ares, Athena and Poseidon – fielded Sports Day teams in a string of solo and team events, including our much anticipated football and volleyball tournaments. Other events were:
We can assure the more cautious of our readers that a Sports Day risk assessment was conducted beforehand!
We concluded the day with a highly competitive finale in the tug of war. However, House Athena’s glorious victory of strength and power in this final event did not save them from chalking up the fewest points (98) across the day, as last year’s Sports Day champions crashed to fourth place. Houses Apollo and Ares came third (100) and second (114) respectively – though Apollo recorded a notable win in this year’s volleyball.
House Poseidon won this year’s Metis Sports Day trophy with a commanding points total of 136. Led by water engineering consultant Katie Authers, Poseidon claimed big victories in this year’s football, 100m sprints and relay races. They also displayed a surprising aptitude for bouncing on space hoppers!
Sports Day upends the race for 2025’s Metis House Cup, after Houses Athena and Ares shared a joint win in our spring treasure hunt earlier this year. All to play for, folks!
