Celebrating Team Spirit: A Recap of Our Annual Sports Day

On Wednesday, 10th June, we took a well-deserved break from our usual routines to celebrate our third consecutive Sports Day. It was a day where deadlines and client meetings took a backseat, allowing us to relish the great outdoors alongside our colleagues.

This year, we decided to liven things up by forming teams inspired by Greek mythology: Apollo, Ares, Athena, and Poseidon. Each team proudly sported custom-made T-shirts and competed for glory with an eye on the grand Wimbledon-style trophy cup, soon to bear the name of our first victors.

The day was filled with a variety of activities designed to test our agility and teamwork:

Athletics: Egg & Spoon Race, Three-Legged Race, Sack Race and Relay Race.

Games: Football, Volleyball and Tug of War.

From start to finish, each team gave their all, pushing through mishaps and challenges with unwavering determination. In the end, Team Athena emerged victorious, celebrating their win with true sportsmanship and a ceremonious toast from the trophy itself.

And naturally, in true Metis style, we concluded the day with a delightful BBQ and plenty of drinks! This year held a special moment as we capped off the festivities by cheering on England’s football team for their 2-1 victory over the Netherlands.

This fun-filled day wouldn’t have been possible without the meticulous planning by our colleagues who volunteered to organise the event. We’d like to extend our thanks to Dani, our Operations Director; Matt, our Water Engineering Engineer; and Mylene, our Office Manager, whose hard work made this memorable day possible. As we reflect on the competitive and friendly spirit that defined the event, we eagerly anticipate next year’s sports day. Who knows, perhaps water sports will make a splash in future editions?

Congratulations once again to Team Athena for their outstanding performance. In the words of Josh, our Highways Engineer and proud member of Team Metis:

“Great effort from everyone at Team Metis, and a closely fought contest with Ares and Apollo. As for Poseidon, well, perhaps the less said the better. Is there a mutiny brewing within the oceans? Ultimately, our team’s strength lay not just in speed, but in our communication, teamwork, and an unbeatable tug of war squad.”

Until next year!
