Community engagement in design

The ICE has published a major survey report ‘What makes good design?’ to give members an insight into ‘good’ design and helping deliver projects.

The report focuses on the themes of climate, people, places, and value and how these should be incorporated in all infrastructural projects.

When talking about the theme of people and their impact on design, the ICE Community Engagement Community of Practice provided recommendations into how people’s views should be incorporated into the creation of infrastructure. Our designer, Zara Khan, is part of the ICE Community Engagement group and has used her field experience from delivered projects to identify how engaging local communities provides a better understanding of the existing issues, how changes will affect the community and how to channel positive and meaningful impact to the lives of the communities when designing public infrastructure schemes.

Along with Zara, all our designers are continuously encouraged to put stakeholders at the forefront of design processes to produce holistic designs.
