Headstone Manor – Flood Alleviation Scheme Under Construction

Share

After working through the design of the project from the initial feasibility stage, the Headstone Manor Flood Alleviation Scheme is now under construction!

Metis have been pleased to support the London Borough of Harrow over the past 3 years through the feasibility design, hydraulic modelling, securing funding, detailed design and now construction of the Flood Alleviation Scheme at Headstone Manor. This scheme compliments the broader Headstone Manor Park rejuvenation works that have been under construction since late 2019.

The project is funded by the National Lottery and Heritage Fund, the Greater London Authority, the Environment Agency and Harrow Council and will provide flood benefits in the North Harrow area by temporarily storing flood water in two dry basins during significant rainfall events.

In addition to providing flood benefits, the scheme will improve the park through creation of new football pitches with drainage, new footpaths around the park and bridges. Clearance of undergrowth, redundant fence posts and other material along the western bank of the Yeading Brook will allow park users to better interact with the watercourse.

The Contractors, Ground Control Ltd, have commenced construction on the two attenuation basins and have already moved almost 35,000 m3 of soil, laid 150m of new pipeline and taken up and replaced over 45,000 m2 of topsoil. Over the coming months, new footpaths and bridges will be constructed and the connections formed between the basins and the Yeading Brook.

We look forward to providing updates as the construction progresses!
