Metis Donations to Re-Cycle: Key Outcomes & Milestone

Share

Earlier this year, we donated to Re-Cycle for the second year running. Re-Cycle focuses on enhancing lives through bicycle reuse, specialising in collecting used bicycles from the UK to promote access to income, education, well-being, and sustainable livelihoods across Africa. Our support directly enables them to collect, refurbish, and distribute bicycles to communities in need. We’re excited to share the outcomes of this donation.

Supporting Re-Cycle’s Core Fund

Our donation has contributed to Re-Cycle’s core fund, which supports their mission. Their annual impact reports, including the 2023 report, offer a detailed look at their work and its positive effects on communities.

Key Outcomes of Our Donation

We are pleased to share that this year, with the help of our donation, Re-Cycle has:

  • Distributed Bicycles: Sent over 8,000 bicycles to five countries in Africa.
  • Trained Bicycle Mechanics: Provided training for four local bicycle mechanics in Zambia, with support from our director and a team member.
  • Provided Sanitary Products: Supplied sanitary products to three schools in Zambia, supporting the cycle-to-school initiative and helping young women continue their education.
  • Improved Headquarters Facilities: Enhanced facilities at their Essex headquarters to boost scalability and efficiency.
  • Upgraded Internal Systems: Improved internal systems for better scalability, efficiency, and quality assurance.
  • Diverted Bicycles from Landfills: Prevented over 13,000 bicycles from ending up in UK landfills, benefiting the economy and environment.
  • Strengthened Offshore Relationships: Enhanced communication and reporting with offshore partners, leading to better case studies.

Celebrating a Milestone

Our support has also helped Re-Cycle reach a significant milestone: in September, they will ship their 150,000th bicycle since their inception in 1997.
