Metis Consultants is delighted to donate £3,000 to the William Wates Memorial Trust. The Trust supports UK-based projects that help disadvantaged young people aged 5-19.

About William Wates Memorial Trust

The Trust was founded in 1998 to celebrate the life of William Wates (1977-1996), who was tragically killed when travelling in Central America. William had been conscious of his own background in life, and consequently keen to help others. The Trust’s aims are designed to reflect where his interests would have been if he was alive today.

Charitable projects supported by the Trust predominantly engage young people through the mediums of sports, arts and education. The intention is to discourage anti-social behaviour and criminal activity, and enable young people to fulfil their potential.

How Metis has previously supported the Trust

A crew of Metis cyclists famously recreated the Trust’s “Le Loop” challenge in 2021 (pictured above).

The original challenge was to complete three Pyrenees stages of the 2021 Tour de France. However, with overseas travel restricted during the COVID-19 pandemic, our team instead rode from Land’s End to our Richmond office in under four days. They covered a total distance of 548km, with a cumulative elevation across the route of 8,240m. It was also a great opportunity to convene for the first Metis team drinks in a very long time!

“It’s a privilege to continue our relationship with the William Wates Memorial Trust,” says Metis chairman Luke Meechan, who has himself ridden the Le Loop route on several occasions.

“We were very proud of our Metis cycling team of 2021 – powering through each day from Land’s End to Penzance, to Dartmoor, to the New Forest and then on to London. It’s also great to see the results of the Trust’s work online, supporting so many grassroots projects. You can clearly see the difference that these make to the lives of young people.”
