When our colleague, Rob’s son, Ted, was diagnosed with High-Risk Neuroblastoma, a rare form of cancer that affects around 100 babies and children in the UK every year, we wanted to support him in any way we could.

So, we decided to host a fundraising event to raise as much money as possible for Neuroblastoma UK, an incredible charity that develops life-saving treatments for kids affected by the disease.

If you’d like to learn more about what we did to help raise much-needed funds for this charity and support our amazing colleague and his beautiful son, just keep reading!

Setting our sights on £6K for Neuroblastoma UK

Our social committee put their thinking hats on to create a company-wide fundraising event that would help us reach our ambitious goal of raising £6,000 for the charity.

Wanting to choose something that everyone could easily get involved with, we decided to raise the funds by walking, running, cycling, and jogging the entire length of the UK!

The beeline distance from Land’s End to John O’Groates is a whopping 970 KM, so we certainly had our work cut out!

The social committee decided we should host a fundraiser day in honour of Ted at Richmond Park on the 28th of September, where members of the Metis team could get those trainers on and kilometres in!

How the fundraiser day went and what we achieved

Our Neuroblastoma UK fundraiser was a resounding success! The whole company took the afternoon off and headed to Richmond Park to run, walk, and cycle as far as they could to help us reach our goal.

We set up water stations around the trees with fruit and juice to keep everyone hydrated and were thankfully blessed with a lovely sunny day for our fundraiser. So, how did we do?

Some groups completed a 5 KM loop, others ran 10 KM, and two team members even ran 30KM! In Richmond Park, everyone’s activities totalled an impressive distance of 832 KM!

But we didn’t stop there; the distance travelled by other colleagues in their free time throughout the week brought us up to a massive 2306 KM – more than double the length of the UK!

So we more than outdid ourselves by hitting our 970 KM target, but did we hit the £6K goal for Neuroblastoma UK?

And (drumroll, please)… we raised £6,385!

With Metis’s donation of £3,000 and our team member’s raising another £3,385, we successfully achieved our goal and raised a total of £6,385 for Neuroblastoma UK!
