We are proud to announce that the Headstone Manor Flood Alleviation Scheme was a semi-finalist in the Flood & Coast Excellence Awards 2021

We are proud to announce that the Headstone Manor Flood Alleviation Scheme was awarded as a semi-finalist in the Flood & Coast Excellence Awards 2021 in the Surface Water Management category.

Metis have been pleased to support the London Borough of Harrow through feasibility design, securing funding, detailed design and construction of the scheme, which narrowly missed out on a spot amongst the finalists.

The scheme has been a collaborative effort which has involved numerous organisations across a range of sectors, from government organisations to private consultants to volunteer and local community groups. This strong partnership approach has been invaluable to the success of the scheme, which aims to reduce surface water flood risk at 225 properties in the Headstone Critical Drainage Area through:

  • De-culverting 100m of the Yeading Brook Channel between Headstone Lane and Headstone Manor Museum;
  • Construction of a sedimentation pond and constructed wetland reed bed system in the space north and east of the Headstone Manor Museum; and
  • Construction of a (approx.) 20,000 m3 storage basin at the southern end of the Recreation Ground.

The flood alleviation scheme was functionally completed at the end of 2020, with remaining construction works delayed due to the wet weather and poor working conditions over winter. The remaining works are scheduled for completion once site conditions improve.

The virtual awards ceremony for the Flood & Coast Excellence Awards 2021 will be free to view online on Wednesday, 30 June 2021. More information on how you can join the online awards ceremony and the entire Flood & Coast 2021 digital series will be posted here: https://www.floodandcoast.com/.
