What triggered your interest in engineering / environmental consultancy?

Growing up, I was always interested in maths, science and problem-solving. A career in engineering seemed to be the perfect combination of all my passions. On top of that, I wanted to do something that would have an impact on the world around me in a way that benefits society and the environment so here I am today!

What made you want to join Metis?

Metis struck me as an organisation that was different to the generic ‘faceless corporation’ in the sense that they take special pride in their work and their client relationships to ensure their projects provide real value to society. It was also clear I would have real responsibilities from day one, allowing me to experience all aspects of the industry, from client meetings, to overcoming unique constraints, while fast-tracking my development as an Engineer.

What type of work have you been involved in since joining Metis?

I have been involved in various projects that make London’s streets safer for motorists, cyclists, and pedestrians alike – from the early stages of the project, through to detailed design.

What do you enjoy about the work environment at Metis and how does it differ from previous experiences?

The work environment at Metis is different to my previous experience due to the trust placed in you from the first day. It is a place where you can learn from your experiences on various projects with guidance from some of the best minds in the industry while developing as an Engineer.

What has been your most rewarding project to work on so far?

My most rewarding project I have worked on is the design of a memorial on Braham Street. Seeing the early stages of the project go from drawings on a screen to physical objects in the world was great and gave me a sense of pride in my work.

What are your ambitions for professional development?

My goal is to become a chartered engineer while continuing to develop my knowledge on all aspects of the industry.

What do you like doing outside of work?

I enjoy spending time with friends and family, going to the gym and playing sports.

What message would you pass on to students thinking about pursuing a career in engineering / environmental consultancy?

Engineering is a very broad industry so take the time to research and discover your interests to allow you to pursue what best aligns with your goals.
